Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) blew away the competition at the home invitational Saturday with first-place finishes in the shot put and weight throw on tosses of 15.63 meters and 20.29 meters respectively. His distance in the weight throw currently ranks first in NCAA Division III and is the third-best recorded throw of all time in the division. The toss is also the 12th best throw in all NCAA divisions this season.
The senior's 20.29 meter distance erased the Yellow Jacket record he set last season. Postema's toss was around 1.3 meters, or more than four and a half feet, further than the 2011 mark he set.
Defiance finished third of eight teams at the meet behind only Case Western and Wittenberg. It was arguably the Purple and Gold men's track and field team's best performance on the indoor season with Postema garnering conference field athlete of the week and fellow Yellow Jacket Troy Parrett grabbing track athlete of the week.
The DC track and field squad will return to action next Saturday, February 2 when it takes the short drive down to Ada, Ohio for the Ohio Northern Invitational. Events will kick off at 11 a.m. in the King Horn Sports Center.
