Defiance Finishes Sixth at HCAC Championship
LEXINGTON, KY. – The Defiance College men’s track and field team traveled to Lexington, Ky. to compete at Transylvania (Ky.) University for the final day of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and finished in sixth place with a two-day team score of 62 points.
LEXINGTON, KY. – The Defiance College men's track and field team traveled to Lexington, Ky. to compete at Transylvania (Ky.) University for the final day of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and finished in sixth place with a two-day team score of 62 points.
Defiance was led by freshman Darius Spinks (Washington, Pa. /Washington) who took home the HCAC Champion title in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.92 seconds. Spinks also placed second in the 100-meter dash after posting a time of 10.96 seconds. Rounding out the day for Spinks, was a third place finish in the long jump after a strong final jump of 21' 10.75".
Sophomore Jacob Rindler (St. Henry) finished runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.42. Freshman Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) was able to score for Defiance in the 400-meter hurdles after finishing eighth with a time of 58.61 seconds.
Freshman Shawn Deese (Canton, Mich. /Canton) posted the highest finish for the Yellow Jacket throwers with a fourth place finish in shot put. Deese tossed the shot a distance of 43' 8", while freshman Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla. /The Villages) followed behind Deese with a distance of 40' 1.5". Petro also scored in the discus with a throw of 132' 8" which was good for an eighth place finish.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, May 8 when they travel to Naperville, Ill. for the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College. The meet start time is yet to be determined.
