Yellow Jacket Men Place 10th at HCAC Championships
BLUFFTON, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's track and field team completed the final day of competition at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Bluffton University. The Yellow Jackets finished in 10th place with an overall team score of six points.

In the running events, junior Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry) finished 10th in the 1500-meter run to record the top overall finish of the day for the Jackets. Bruggeman crossed the finish line in a time of 4:19.62. Freshman Daren Gies (Plymouth) competed in the same event and posted a top-20 time of 4:44.12 and placed 20th overall.
Bruggeman also ran in the 800-meter run and run a preliminary time of 2:06.93 to place 15th overall.
Junior John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Area) was the lone DC competitor in the 400-meter dash and placed 16th in the prelims after turning in a time of 55.81 seconds.
In the 100-meter dash, freshmen Dalin Brown (Port St. Lucie, Fla./St. Lucie West Centennial) and DeAundre Butler (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) competed in the preliminaries and placed 17th and 19th respectively with marks of 12.03 and 12.18 seconds, but did not advance to the finals. The duo also competed in the 200-meter dash with Butler recording a preliminary time of 25.11 seconds to place 20th and Brown ran a time of 25.57 seconds which placed him 24th.
In field events, sophomore Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) finished fourth in the hammer throw following a toss of 143' 5.00". Also competing in the event, junior Joseph Carpenter (Rootstown/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 13th with a throw of 127' 3.00" and freshman Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) was 15th with a throw of 124' 10.00". Rounding out the DC competitors was junior Josh Ream (Van Wert/Crestview) who posted a distance of 119' 11.00" which was good enough for 17th.
The DC men are scheduled to travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana University meet on Friday, May 6. The start time for the meet is listed as TBA.
