Fielding Events Take Control in Dick Small Invitational
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted the annual Dick Small Invitational and finished ninth with a team score of 30 points.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted the annual Dick Small Invitational and finished ninth with a team score of 30 points.
Top finishes in the running events included, junior Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) finished fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase competition with a time of 10:53.07.
Junior John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Area) finished 16th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.88 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, freshman DeAundre Butler (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) crossed the line in 18th place with a mark of 25.27 seconds. Fellow freshman Dalin Brown (Port St. Lucie, Fla./St. Lucie West Centennial) also competed in the event and placed 20th in a time of 25.40 seconds.
In field events, sophomore Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) finished second in the men's high jump competition with a height of 6' 0.75".
In the men's hammer throw, sophomore Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) finished 10th in the finals with a throw of 137' 0.00". Junior Joseph Carpenter (Rootstown/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 13th with a distance of 131' 1.00" and junior Zachary Kasper (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) finished 16th with a throw of 124' 11.00". Rounding out the DC competitors was freshman Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) who finished 18th with a throw of 121' 9.00".
In addition to competing in the hammer, Castillo finished fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 131' 6.00". Petro finished 11th with a throw of 122' 5.00". Freshman Andrew Fahler (Wellington) finished 15th and had a throw of 111' 8.00". Freshman Justin Bergquist (Cincinnati/Northwest) placed 16th with a throw of 110' 9.00" amd junior Josh Ream (Van Wert/Crestview) finished 17th with a throw of 105' 8.00".
Castillo also competed in the shot put and finished fourth with a mark of 44' 5.00". Freshman James Baranoski Jr. (Bloomingdale, Mich./Bloomingdale) finished 13th with a toss of 38' 7.00" and Ream placed 17th with a toss of 37' 8.50". In addition, Bergquist finished 20th after a best toss of 36' 0.25".
Defiance will be back in action on Saturday, April 9 when it travels to Huntington, Ind for the Huntington (Ind.) University Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
