Yellow Jackets Host Defiance College Open

DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted the annual Defiance Open at the George M. Smart Athletic Center. The meet was unscored.
Helping to make up the list of top performances on the day was the Jacket 4x200-meter relay team that finished second overall with a mark of 1:38.18. Team members included junior Andy Foore (Swanton), senior Courtney Lyn-Kew (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach), freshman DeAundre Butler (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota), and junior John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Area).
Junior Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry) and junior Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) both competed in the one-mile run and placed in the top-20 overall. Bruggeman finished 15th with a time of 4:47.43 and Krick followed, placing 16th, crossing the finish line in 4:50.87.
Finishing in fourth place in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles was sophomore Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview). He leaped across the finish line in 9.24 seconds. Schwarzbek also competed in the high jump and placed sixth with a heighth of 5' 10.00".
Freshman Daren Gies (Plymouth) came in 17th place in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.45.
Butler placed 17th in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.56 seconds. Butler competed in the long-jump event as well, finishing ninth with a leap of 18' 4.25".
Foore finished 18th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58 seconds. Foore also competed ini the 200-meter dash where he finished 17th in a time of 25.16 seconds.
In field events, the Yellow Jackets had two men finish in the top-ten in the weight-throw. Sophomore Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) finished sixth with a toss of 47' 10.50". Junior Zachary Kasper (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) finished seventh with a toss of 46' 10.75". Also competing in the same event was junior Joseph Carpenter (Rootstown/St. Thomas Aquinas) who finished 16th and threw a distance of 39' 9.75". Freshman Andrew Fahler (Wellington) finished 18th with a toss of 38' 0.75".
Junior Josh Ream (Van Wert/Crestview) placed 17th overall in the shot-put with a mark of 38' 6.00". In addition, freshman Justin Bergquist (Cincinnati/Northwest) placed 19th in the same event and had a toss of 38' 4.75".
Select members of the Defiance track teams will compete in the All-Ohio Division III Championships tomorrow (Feb. 13) at Otterbein University in Westervillle, Ohio. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
