Defiance Competes in Joe Banks Invitational
ADA, OHIO- The Defiance men's track and field team traveled to Ohio Northern University today (Feb. 6) to compete in the Joe Banks Invitational. Overall, the team finished 13th with six points.
ADA, OHIO- The Defiance men's track and field team traveled to Ohio Northern University today (Feb. 6) to compete in the Joe Banks Invitational. Overall, the team finished 13th with six points.
In the distance medley relay, the Yellow Jackets relay took third place with a time of 11:36.73. Runners were junior Jacob Rindler (St. Henry), junior John Seeley (Sault St. Marie, Mich./Sault Area), senior Courtney Lyn-Kew (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach), and junior Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry).
DC had two competitors in the 3000-meter run. Junior Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) crossed the finish line in 9:54.58, finishing in 18th place. Junior Zach Roush (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) crossed shortly after in 10:03.07 and in 20th place.
Freshman Daren Gies (Plymouth) competed in the 1000-meter run and finished 16th overall with a mark of 3:02.91.
The Jackets had two competitors finish in the top-20 in the weight throw with freshman Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) leading the way with a 17th-place finish and a distance of 44' 1.50". Following Castillo was teammate and sophomore Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) who placed 19th with a toss of 43' 11.75".
Defiance had one male finish in the top-ten in the shot put event. Junior Josh Ream (Van Wert/Crestview) placed ninth with a toss of 40' 11.75". Placing just outside the top-10 was Kasper who recorded a distance of 40' 7.75" and placed 11th overall. In addition, freshman James Baranoski, Jr. (Bloomingdale, Mich./Bloomingdale) finished in 19th place with a distance of 37' 6.75".
The Jackets will host the Defiance College Open on Friday, Feb. 12 at the George M. Smart Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
