Men Compete in Northwest Ohio Invitational
FINDLAY, OHIO- The Defiance men's track and field team traveled to Findlay, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 15 to compete in the Northwest Ohio Invitational. Overall, the men finished in 11th place.
FINDLAY, OHIO- The Defiance men's track and field team traveled to Findlay, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 15 to compete in the Northwest Ohio Invitational. Overall, the men finished in 11th place.
The top finishers for the men's 200-meter dash were junior Andy Foore (Swanton) and senior Courtney Lyn-Kew (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach). Foore finished 29th overall and ran with a time of 24.78 seconds. Lyn'Kew finished 31st with a time of 25.09 seconds.
Defiance had three runners finish in the top-11 during the 500-meter dash. Lyn-Kew finished eighth overall with a time of 1:16.06. Junior John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Area) and sophomore Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) tied for 11th place both crossing the line at the 1:24.04 minute mark.
Junior Jacob Rindler (St. Henry) finished 24th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.47. Freshman Daren Gies (Plymouth) finished 25th in the same event, running a 2:25.41.
Junior Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry) finished the one-mile run in 4:45.25, finishing 23rd out of 34 runners. Junior Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) finished 31st and ran a time of 5:01.90.
During the 3000-meter run, Defiance had two runners who finished in the top-35. Krick ran in a time of 10:13.05 and finished 30th. Junior Zach Roush finished 31st with a time of 10:38.56.
Sophomore Aaron Schwarzbek finished 11th for the Jackets during the high jump. Schwarzbek went 5' 11.25".
Defiance had five men finish in the top-30 for the shot put event. Freshman Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) threw 42' 9" and finished 12th. Freshman James Baranoski Jr. (Bloomingdale, Mich./Bloomingdale) finished 18th and threw 40' 4.25". Coming in 20th place was junior Zachary Kasper (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) who threw 40' 0.5". Freshman Justin Bergquist (Cincinniti) finished 24th and threw 38' 2.25". Freshman Josh Ream finished in 25th place and threw 37' 8".
In weight throw, the Jackets only had two men finish in the top 25. Sophomore Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) finished 13th and threw 44' 6.25". Junior Joseph Carpenter (Rootstown/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 22nd and threw 40' 0".
The men will compete next Saturday (Jan. 23) when they host their indoor home opener at the George M. Smart Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
