GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Melanie Bushman and Aarika Davis each were named to the NCAA Division III's Central Region All-Tournament team on Sunday, after helping the Jackets earn the school's first Regional semifinal berth this past weekend.
Bushman, who hit .308 in the tournament, led Defiance with a .348 batting average and 37 RBI this season, while also tallying 10 doubles, three home runs and a career-best 389 putouts. The senior first baseman earned All-HCAC honors for the second time her career, after garnering HCAC All-Tournament and a pair of HCAC Hitter-of-the-Week honors in 2009.
Davis led the team with seven hits in the tournament, highlighted by her four-hit performance in DC's 8-2 win over Thomas More on Saturday. The Canton, Ohio native finished second on the team with a .307 batting average this season, while tallying nine doubles, 20 RBI and 103 assists on the year.
Defiance wrapped up the 2009 with a school-record 30 victories, while claiming its second-straight HCAC Tournament title and NCAA Regional Final Four appearance.
