Defiance Sweeps HCAC Softball Player-of-the-Week Awards

GREENWOOD, Ind. – DC's Tasha Stucke was tagged as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, and Kailea Holbrook took HCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, giving the Jackets a clean sweep of the conference's softball awards following the first week of action.

Stucke has been terrific as the leadoff batter in the Yellow Jackets' lineup, hitting .500 through four games with six hits in 12 at bats. She's recorded a hit in all four contests this season, giving her seven-straight games with at least one hit, dating back to the end of the 2010 season. The senior slugger also leads the team with five runs, four walks and two stolen bases this season.

Holbrook has wasted little time making an impact for the Jackets in her first season out of Defiance High School. She leads the team with 19.2 innings of work, seven strikeouts and a 2.85 earned run average, and recorded her first collegiate victory in DC's 5-1 win over Alverno College on Sunday. Holbrook pitched a complete game against the Saints, allowing 10 hits, one walk, no extra base hits and just one run through seven innings.

Stucke and Holbrook led the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 mark in their first day at the annual Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., marking the squad's first 2-0 start in Florida since 2005. The team will look to continue that streak today, when it takes on Muskingum University (0-2) at 3:00 p.m. and Wittenberg University (2-2) at 5:00 p.m.
