Biggs, Hubble sweep HCAC Athlete of the Week honors for Softball
Defiance College senior pitcher Taylor Biggs was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for Softball, and junior utility player Kalin Hubble was named the HCAC Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon.
CARMEL, Ind. – Defiance College senior pitcher Taylor Biggs was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for Softball, and junior utility player Kalin Hubble was named the HCAC Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Biggs pitched in all four of Defiance's contests last week, recording two wins and a save in the Yellow Jackets' three victories. She tossed two complete games and over 15 innings, allowed just two earned runs for a 0.93 ERA. Biggs gave up nine hits and finished the week with 14 strikeouts as opponents batted only .180 against her.
The senior is third in the conference standings for innings pitched (50.0) and batters struck out (41), and is ranked second for strikeouts looking (15).
Hubble batted .643 (9 for 14) with three home runs, three doubles, 10 RBIs, and five runs scored in last week's four games. She was also 2 for 2 in stolen bases while putting together a 1.500 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage.
In DC's doubleheader sweep at Bluffton last Tuesday, Hubble went 5 for 7 with two homers, a double, six RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases.
The junior sits in the top five of many offense categories in the HCAC including hits, RBI, doubles, slugging percentage and home runs. She currently leads the HCAC in home runs with four and RBIs with 23.
