Softball announces 2023 schedule
The Defiance College softball program has announced its schedule for the 2023 season. The Yellow Jackets have 40 games scheduled that includes trips to Missouri, Florida, and Kentucky.
The team opens up their season in Chesterfield, Missouri for four games February 25 and 26 against Carroll (Feb. 25), Millikin (Feb. 25), Monmouth (Feb. 26), and Illinois College (Feb. 26).
Sandwiched in between the opening weekend and spring break are two games at Hope on March 4.
The next eight games will all be neutral site games as the team plays four in Florida at The Spring Games and four in Kentucky at the Pioneer Classic. The Yellow Jackets will face Wisconsin-Stout and Lakeland on March 13 in Florida and conclude The Spring Games with matchups against Chicago and Wooster on March 16. Following those games, the team will head to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to play four games, two on March 18 and two March 19. Kentucky opponents include George Fox (Mar. 18), Depauw (Mar. 18), Asbury (Mar.19), and Wittenberg (Mar. 19).
A trip to Heidelberg is scheduled for March 21.
The home opener is March 25 against Albion. The remaining non-conference slate includes a trip to Adrian on April 3 and home dates with Alma and Kalamazoo, Alma on April 12 and Kalamazoo April 25.
Conference play opens with a trip to Rose-Hulman on April 1. The home conference opener is April 8 against rival Bluffton. Before returning home again, the team will play at Transylvania on April 15 and Manchester on April 19.
The Yellow Jackets will play eight straight home games April 22-May 3. Hanover on April 22 and the aforementioned Kalamazoo on April 25. Senior day will be April 29 against Franklin and staff/faculty day will be May 3 versus Anderson.
Defiance will close out the regular season May 6 at Mount St. Joseph.
Overall, the schedule consists of 12 neutral games, 14 home games, and 14 road games.
