"We were proud to be given the opportunity to support such an important cause, and hope the money raised will be able to contribute to help find a cure in the future," said assistant women's basketball coach, Nikki Oakland.
Race coordinator, Chelseas Sites, said approximately 50 walkers from the Defiance area took part in the event, which was able to raise more than $4,000 dollars in donations. The Lady Jackets did their part by placing themselves in various locations around the course, and offering assistance and encouragement to the participants.
"It was great to see all the people that participated for such a great cause, and we look forward to helping out in the future," said senior guard, Molly Bateman.
The student-athletes at Defiance College have earned a reputation for their consistent contributions to community improvement over the years. During the 2009-10 academic school year alone, the DC athletics program contributed nearly 2,400 hours towards community service.
