DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College junior women's basketball player Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) continues to add to her list of weekly honors by being selected the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III Women's National Player of the Week. [USBWA Release]
Tietje has already been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week and selected to the D3hoops.com "Team of the Week."
The Yellow Jackets posted a 2-0 record this past week which saw Tietje average 26.5 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game.
She shot an impressive 80.8 percent (21-of-26) overall from the field, which included a 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) effort against the Ravens, and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) at the free-throw line. She also recorded nine blocked shots and added one steal.
In the team's win against Anderson (Ind.) University, Tietje scored 24 points and 14 rebounds. Against Hanover (Ind.) College, she tallied 29 points and grabbed 12 boards to record her 10th and 11th double-doubles for the season.
She now has 43 double-doubles for her career and has scored 1,225 career points and moves into 11th place all-time on the scoring list.
The Yellow Jackets will host Earlham (Ind.) College on Wednesday, Feb. 3 in a HCAC game at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
