Yellow Jackets Fall Short in Home Opener

DEFIANCE, OH - The Defiance College women's soccer team kicked-off their 2018 season as they played host to Wilmington College on Friday afternoon as part of the Purple and Gold Classic. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Quakers 2-0.

Defiance held their own against the Quakers for much of the first half.  After a spell of possession, Wilmington was able to take the lead on a goal in the 38th minute. The Quaker's Taylor Leake was able to push a shot past junior Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) with just a handful of minutes remaining in the first half. The Quakers offensive play continued into the second half as they ultimately earned two goals on 44 shots in the match.

Bowman minded the net for the Yellow Jackets for all 90 minutes and turned up 21 saves. Offensively, the Yellow Jackets created a handful of chances during the second period. On the day, the Purple and Gold tallied one shot from junior defender Malia Ferry (Milford /Milford).

The Yellow and Jackets are next in action Sunday, Sept. 2nd as they host Westminster for the conclusion of the Purple and Gold Classic. The match is set to kickoff at 12:00 pm.
