Women's Soccer Falls in Close Contest at Thiel 

GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Defiance College women's soccer team hit the road to take on Thiel College on Monday night. The close contest saw the hosts prevail by just a one-goal margin, 2-1.

The Tomcats got on the score sheet first, finding the back of the net 16 minutes into the game and would double their lead before the first half was over.

Despite the 2-0 deficit, the Yellow Jackets came out of the break, not going down without a fight. On the attack, senior Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi), scored the only goal of the night in the 82nd minute with an assist from fellow senior Jordan Furko (Swanton, Ohio. / Swanton).

Newman led the way for the Purple and Gold in the shots category with eight and recorded her sixth goal of the 2019 season.

Defensively, senior Madi Bowman (Eaton, Ohio/ Eaton) played all 90 minutes for the Yellow Jackets, making twelve saves on the day.

The loss brings Defiance's record to 4-6-1 on the season. The Yellow Jackets are next in action Saturday, October 5th as open HCAC play with a home contest again Franklin. The match is slated to kickoff at 1:00 pm.
