Short-handed Jackets Hang Tough with Sinclair

DEFIANCE, Ohio – With one of their top players out with a hand injury, the Lady Jackets gave Sinclair Community College a run for its money on Friday evening. Sinclair edged out the Jackets 5-4, in what was one of DC's best performances so far this season.

Freshmen Kirsten Wieland and Catie Savage went undefeated in the match, winning 8-6 in No. 1 doubles action before topping their opponents in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches respectively. Wieland did not surrender a single point in her match as she claimed the first singles victory of her young collegiate career. Savage beat Sinclair's Karen Haviland, 1-6, 6-4, (8-6), in the No. 2 singles match to move to 1-6 in singles competition this season.

The combination of Katie Carunchia and Danielle LaBarbera continued to be effective in the No. 3 doubles match with an 8-5 win over Sinclair's Maggie Thomas and Jodi Roth. Carunchia and LaBarbera are now 3-4 overall as a doubles team this year.

The Lady Jackets will hit the road tomorrow morning, when they travel to Indiana for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tri-match with Manchester College (1-5, 1-3 HCAC) and Hanover College (2-2, 2-2 HCAC). DC will square off against Manchester at 10:00 a.m., and Hanover at noon.
