Horvath named WHAC Track Athlete of the Week after record-setting performance
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College sophomore Mira Horvath (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week following her standout performance at Central State on Friday.
Horvath set a new school record for the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.28 and claimed first place at the meet. The Defiance native beat the former school record by three seconds, which stood since 2013. Horvath's time also proved to be the 13th-fastest among WHAC runners this year. It was also her second record-setting performance of the year after she reset the indoor 300-meter record earlier this year.
With the first-place finish, Horvath earned her third event win of the year between the indoor and outdoor track seasons. She has also earned five podium finishes during her first year at DC. In addition to the outstanding performance on the track, Horvath also set new personal bests in the shot put (8.22 meters) and javelin (20.07 meters) during the meet at Central State on Friday.
Defiance's track and field season continues at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Thursday before traveling to the WHAC Championships next week.
