Miller breaks another record to start off 2014
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Eme Miller broke another DC record and the Yellow Jackets placed several runners in the top 10 in the first meet of the calendar year, as DC traveled to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the Northwest Ohio Invitational Friday night.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Eme Miller broke another DC record and the Yellow Jackets placed several runners in the top 10 in the first meet of the calendar year, as DC traveled to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the Northwest Ohio Invitational Friday night.
Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) finished 8th in the 1-mile run, breaking the DC school record as she crossed the line at the 5:25.20 mark.
Kali George (East Palestine, Ohio / East Palestine) saw the best finish for the Lady Jackets during the meet. She finished in 5th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.22. Bree Anderson (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll) also finished inside the top 10 in the event. With her time of 27.86 she was able to finish 9th. That time also gave Anderson her career best time in the 200-meter dash.
The last top 10 performance in a running event came from George, Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center, Ohio / Liberty Center), Margaret Sarfino (Dayton, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont), and Brooke Lime (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance). The quad participated in the 4x400-meter Relay and achieved an 8th place finish. Lime crossed the line to give the relay team a time of 4:20.49.
DC also got a couple top 10 finishes in the field as well. Sarfino placed 6th in the long jump with a distance of 4.92 meters. Weaks jumped 9.44 meters in the triple jump on her way to an 8th place finish in that event.
The Yellow Jackets will be in action again Saturday, January 25 for their first home meet. The Defiance College Invitational will begin at 11 a.m.
