DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has selected Defiance College's Danyel Lipps as its Player of the Week for volleyball, after the senior outside hitter led the Jackets to a 4-2 record and a second-place showing at the Marietta Tournament.
Lipps ended the week with 60 kills and a .263 hitting percentage to go with 46 digs, 12 total blocks and seven service aces in the six matches and also earned a spot on the All-Marietta Tournament Team.
The West Alexandria, Ohio, native turned in an 11-kill, 19-dig double-double performance against No. 28 Heidelberg on Tuesday and went on to lead the Jackets in kills in four of the six matches, while recording at least seven kills in all six outings.
Lipps leads Defiance (10-5) with 139 kills and is just 30 shy of passing Nikki Retcher (2001-2004) as DC's all-time kills leader. Retcher is the school's current record holder with 1,138 kills in her career.
The HCAC Player-of-the-Week honor is the second for Lipps in her four-year career with Defiance.
Lipps and the Jackets will play a pair of road matches this weekend, with a non-conference clash with Franklin on September 25 at 7:30 pm and the HCAC opener at Rose-Hulman on September 26 at 12:00 pm.
