Miller wins Defiance Duals to lead Yellow Jackets
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets hosted a dual meet against Manchester University Friday evening and sophomore Emilee Miller ran away with the individual competition to pick up her first career victory in her first individual competition for the Purple and Gold.
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets hosted a dual meet against Manchester University Friday evening and sophomore Emilee Miller ran away with the individual competition to pick up her first career victory in her first individual competition for the Purple and Gold.
Miller, a native of Portland, Ind., took the victory in the 6k race, winning by 42.3 seconds over second place finisher Mariah Jordan of Manchester. Miller crossed the line with a time of 25:48.2.
The race was held on the course which will be run for the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in early November.
The victory for Miller was her first for the Purple and Gold. Last week Miller competed with Sadie Daeger in a tandem race at the Manchester Hokum Karem in her first cross country meet for Defiance. The duo finished 12th.
Finishing second for the Yellow Jackets was Marissa Bussard. The junior finished with a time of 28:45.0 to score ninth in the event.
Brittany Holmes (29:02.5), Daeger (29:10.9), and Kelsey Bowling (29:15.3) finished right behind Bussard, taking the next three spots, respectively.
Defiance finished with 43 total points in the event, while Manchester finished with 20.
Up next for the Yellow Jackets will be a trip to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Sept. 14 for the Calvin Pre-Regional Invitational. The race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start. The aforementioned HCAC Championships will be run at Defiance on November 2 at 12 p.m.
