Bucklew Tabbed as HCAC Hitter of the Week

RICHMOND, IND. - Junior Ben Bucklew (Archbold) capped an impressive week by being named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon. The award is Bucklew's first recognition of the year. 

Bucklew tallied a .643 batting average over a four game stretch this week. The Archbold native put nine balls in play as base hits including one double and one triple. The catcher drove in four RBI over the four game span while drawing five walks. Ben boasts an impressive .750 on-base percentage as well as a .857 slugging percentage from the week's action. 

Bucklew's efforts served as part of the Yellow Jackets four game sweep, including wins over defending HCAC champion Franklin College, that secured DC a spot in the HCAC Tournament for the first time since the 2013 season. 

Defiance will return to action Thursday, May 9, as they take on Transylvania in the opening round of the HCAC Tournament. First pitch is slated for 12:30 pm at Rose-Hulman.
