DEFIANCE, Ohio – Before having its 2020 season shortened because of the coronavirus, the Defiance College baseball team was off to a fabulous start after posting a 7-1 record on its annual Spring Break trip to Florida. CARMEL, Ind. – After a vote of its sports information directors, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the Athletes of the Week for spring sports on Monday afternoon. In baseball, Defiance College’s Cohen Nies (Logansport, Ind./Lewis Cass) was named the HCAC Pitcher of the Week, marking the first time this season and third time in his career that he has earned the honor.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Coming off a solid season last year, the Defiance College baseball team looks to keep improving and be in the hunt for the 2020 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. In 2019 – after being picked to finish last in the conference by the HCAC head coaches – Defiance went 23-16-1 overall. The Yellow Jackets tied for third place in the conference at 10-8 before making a strong run with two wins at the HCAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed.
