DEFIANCE, OHIO - Kevin Finfrock a 1986 graduate of Defiance College and a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his home in West Milton but his legacy lives on.
Finfrock was a four-year member of the Defiance College football and track and field programs. As a part of the football team, he was named NAIA All-American on three separate occasions and set the DC record for most touchdowns in a single game, ranked first in the nation in kick-off returns, and fourth in the nation in punt returns.
""Kevin was a fierce competitor and a very productive offensive player. The numerous accolades he earned were well-deserved, and he'll forever be remembered as one of the best players to step on the field for Defiance College," said teammate and alum Don "Wink" Martindale.
Kevin also went on to claim Defiance College Athletics highest honor, the Male Athlete of the Year on two separate occasions. He was officially inducted into the Alumni Varsity "D" Hall of Fame in 2002 after a unanimous vote. Following his collegiate career, Finfrock had several tryouts with NFL teams before perusing a passion in coaching.
The Hall of Fame coach began his career at Piqua High School before returning to his alma mater, Covington High School in 1999 where he served as the offensive coordinator from 1999 to 2002. During his time, he helped guide the team to an impressive 42-4 record and four State qualifiers. Finfrock would call the program his own in 2003 after being voted unanimously the Buccaneers Head Coach. Under his tenure, the team went 34-9 overall and made three State Playoff appearances.
"Kevin was a talented player and coach. He played with great passion and enthusiasm and his teams played the same way," added former teammate and alum Ron Neanen. "His teams were always fundamentally sound, never flinched and played with class. Kevin always had a smile and made those around him better."
He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players in Defiance College football history.
