Jackets roll to second straight conference win
DEARBORN, Mich. - A strong shooting performance led from the perimeter by sophomore Evan Angstmann powered the Defiance Yellow Jackets to a 94-71 win over the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines at UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (8-5, 3-5 WHAC) matched the previous season's win total with the victory and consecutive wins in WHAC play for the first time since joining the conference. The Wolverines (4-10, 3-5 WHAC) dropped their fifth consecutive game with the loss.
Angstmann connected on 5 3-pointers to lead DC's effort to a dozen made treys. His 24 points were his third game of 20 points or more. Four other Yellow Jackets (Christian Burton, Wren Sheets, Donovan Stone, and Parker Chatman) added double figures in the victory that saw the Jackets shoot 47 percent from the field. Wren Sheets was the team's top rebounder with 12 boards to go with 11 points for his first-career double-double.
Defiance pulled off the wire-to-wire victory with just one tie in the game, which occurred at 3-3 during the first minute of the game. Angstmann broke the tie with his first triple to start a 14-6 start to the game for the Jackets. UM-Dearborn closed the gap to two points halfway through the first period before DC ran away on a 19-6 rally before halftime. The Yellow Jackets erupted for 52 points in the second half on 50 percent shooting, and they finished the game up 50-32 in the rebounding margin.
