Bio
Mike Floyd was named the 24th head men's basketball coach at Defiance College in March 2026, bringing the former Yellow Jacket guard back to lead his alma mater.
Floyd was a 2010 graduate from DC and a four-year player (2006-10) on the men's basketball team while the program went 77-32 in his four seasons. He was a member of two regular-season conference championship teams in 2007-08 and 2009-10 in addition to the 2010 HCAC Tournament Championship and a berth to the Division III National Tournament. Coach Floyd was a four-time All-HCAC performer, including a pair of First Team honors, while leading the conference in assists all four years as he finished second all-time in career assists at DC with 502. He also holds the single-game assists record with 16, a feat he accomplished twice during his playing career.
After finishing his degree in sport management, Floyd spent three years at Piedmont University as an assistant basketball coach and earned his MBA there in 2013. He then returned to the HCAC as an assistant coach at Hanover College under Jon Miller, his former coach at Defiance. While with the Panthers, he helped guide Hanover to back-to-back HCAC regular-season and conference titles that included a run to the D3 Elite 8 in 2016-17.
Following six seasons as a college assistant, Floyd became the head coach at Toledo Central Catholic High School. He spent eight seasons (2018-26) leading the Fighting Irish to a 125-71 record, which included three 20-win seasons, the 2022-23 Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) championship, and five district championships. In Floyd's last season at the helm in 2025-26, the Irish finished 23-4 and made its first trip to the State Final 4 since 2011 before losing in overtime in the Division III state semi-finals. Among his accolades leading Toledo Central Catholic were 2022-23 TRAC Coach of the Year, 2025-26 District VII Coach of the Year, and 2025-26 All-Northwest District Coach of the Year.
Floyd is a Toledo native and graduated from St. John's Jesuit High School, where he played football, basketball, and ran track for the Titans. He was part of a state Final 4 appearance on the gridiron and also helped St. John's to a pair of state championship game appearances on the hardwood.
