Jackets place ninth at WHAC Fall Preview, two golfers finish top-20
AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Defiance Yellow Jackets continue to trend in the right direction with a ninth-place finish at the WHAC Fall Preview on Monday and Tuesday at Stoatin Brae Golf Club, scoring the program's lowest 54-hole score since 2017.
The Yellow Jackets completed team rounds of 312, 310 and 317 to finish 939 for the tournament and placed ninth. In two 54-hole WHAC events last season, Defiance posted scores of 977 and 990 and finished 12th in each tournament. The 54-hole team record remains in tact at 927 but the team's output this week is now the second-best in program history.
Sam Theissler and Colten Schroeder represented the Jackets with 18th-place finishes. Each golfer logged a 228 for the tournament and shot under 80 in all three rounds. The freshman Schroeder matched his lowest round of the fall with a 73 in Monday's opening round with two birdies and bogey-free back nine. Theissler got stronger after every round, shaving a stroke off each 18 he played with two birdies apiece in Round 2 and 3.
UNOH's Jaiden Pass shot 216 to win medalist honors for the field of 68 despite a 5-over 76 final round, winning by one stroke over teammate Guillermo Garro. The Racers took home the team cup with a 877, which was 16 strokes clear of Lawrence Tech. UNOH was the only team to golf below 300 as a team in all three rounds.
