Yellow Jackets set two team records, finish third at DC Fall Invite

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's golf program have new single-round and 36-hole team records after hosting the DC Fall Invite at Auglaize Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. 

DC's Team A comprised of Colten Schroeder, Zack Palmer, Sam Theissler, Jordan Walford and Owen Massey broke the program record with a collective 289 on Sunday to bring their 36-hole score to 588, also a new record for the men's golf program. Defiance's Team B tied the previous team record with a 292 on Sunday but finished the tournament with a 591 to also beat the old record. Peyton Thomas, Connor Elliott, Dominic Giamei, Brian Rogers and Ethan Schnitkey were the players who contributed to Team B's competitive run.

Despite the accomplishments as a team, it was not enough to earn the tournament hardware. Ohio Northern shot six strokes better than DC and Governors State with a 582 grand total. The Polar Bears also took home individual medalist honors as Bennett Christy shot a 5-under 139 with 68 on Saturday followed by 71 on Sunday.

DC's Peyton Thomas and Colten Schroeder were among three players to finish two strokes behind Christy. Both Yellow Jackets shot 141 for a 3-under tournament.

Low rounds were plentiful for Defiance with eight rounds of even-par or better. Thomas shot under par both days while Schroeder, Palmer, Giamei and Theissler all beat par during the final round. Thomas and Giamei also led the program with nine birdies over the weekend while Schroeder's 69 on Sunday was Defiance's lowest 18 holes of the tournament.
