ADRIAN, Mich. – The Defiance College men's soccer team could not withstand Adrian College's offensive onslaught, falling 6-1 on September 14. The Jackets fall to 0-5 this season with the loss, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-3.
Adrian jumped on the board first, as Jared Roan's goal in the 13th minute gave the Bulldogs a one-goal lead. DC tied the match just over ten minutes later, when Tony Cornell scored the seventh goal of his career on a direct kick from 18 yards out. Adrian regained the lead in the first half on a Luke Dillenburger goal, before putting the game out of reach with four goals in the final stanza.
Defiance was outshot 27-5 in the match, with Cornell's goal marking DC's only shot on goal. Kevin Elson, Chris Kessler, Adam Collins and Bryce Hodges each recorded a shot for the Jackets. DC keeper Mitch Livensparger tallied six saves in the match, pushing his season total to 34.
Defiance will return to Matthew Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on Wednesday, September 17, when it hosts Trine University for a 4:00 p.m. match.
