Defiance Beats Bluffton, 1-0
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s soccer team hosted Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University and defeated the Beavers, 1-0.
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men's soccer team hosted Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University and defeated the Beavers, 1-0.
Defiance (5-10-2, 3-2-1 HCAC) started the first half off strong by putting pressure on the Bluffton (5-11, 2-4, HCAC) defense, getting five shots off within the first twenty minutes of the game.
Senior forward Ashten Forde (Euclid) tried to put the Yellow Jackets on top at the 32:38 minute mark, but it was saved by the Bluffton goalkeeper and the Yellow Jackets took a 0-0 tie into halftime.
After intermission, Defiance struck first when freshman forward Anthony Ewing (Dayton/Northmont) had a shot on goal that was saved, then picked up his own rebound and scored giving the Yellow Jackets the 1-0 lead.
The Beavers were looking for the equalizer, but senior defender Ian Faschnacht (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) and the defensive line held strong. Bluffton was unable to find the back of the net and the Yellow Jackets defeated the Beavers, 1-0.
In the net for Defiance, sophomore Damian Koester (Englewood /Brookville) ended the game with three saves.
The Purple and Gold return to play when they host the College of Mount St. Joseph in a HCAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 25. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
