Yellow Jacket comeback falls short at Olivet
OLIVET, Mich. - The Defiance Yellow Jackets were defeated by the Olivet Comets, 3-2, at the Cutler Athletic Complex on Sunday as DC could not quite overcome a two-goal deficit in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets (0-5) scored first for the second time in their last three contests but the Comets quickly found an equalizer to absorb DC's energy. Jack Stanoikovich logged his second goal of the season during the 40th minute on a pass from freshman Anthony Tomaszewski, who later scored in the second half to bring Defiance within one goal with under 20 minutes remaining.
THE TURNING POINT
Rapid scoring has been an early defensive bane for the Yellow Jackets. Olivet scored all three of their goals in a span of 10 minutes of game time. Just over a minute following DC's opening goal, Aidan Reynolds evened the score at 1-1 in the 41st minute to enter the halftime break all square. Just 1:17 into the second half, Tyler Brooks shelved the go-ahead goal and Abraham Jimenez added another three minutes later for a critical score that ended up being the difference in the match.
