Defiance shows tough defense but fall to Indiana Tech, 3-0
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Facing the No. 17 team in the NAIA Top 25, the Defiance Yellow Jackets showcased a cohesive defensive effort in a 3-0 loss to the Indiana Tech Warriors on Wednesday at Winsper Knobel Field.
Coming off a win on Saturday, the Yellow Jackets were able to keep the Warriors in front of them the whole match despite the visitors holding possession for most of the contest. Jacob Goldsberry continues to show resilience between the pipes and knocked down 15 of 18 shots on goal in the match, including a number of diving attempts.
DC's defense was able to keep Indiana Tech from any clean looks during the first 15 minutes of action. The Warriors were patient and measured in their attack, playing under control and taking high-quality shots as Defiance kept angles covered.
Indiana Tech broke through in the 19th minute on the last of three straight corner kicks, which was headed through by Thomas Cole off the corner. The Warriors tacked on a second goal off a bad bounce from DC just before the half. Quinn Holtzapple headed away a cross through the box but the ball deflected right to a trailing Alvaro Martin on the weak side of the net that he was able to punch through for the goal. Halfway through the second half, Martin scored again with a strong strike from the top-left of the box.
