DEFIANCE, Ohio – A late goal by Oscar Olivier awarded the Defiance Yellow Jackets' three graduating seniors with a 1-0 victory in the team's 2025 season finale against the Rochester Christian Warriors on Saturday at Winsper Knobel Memorial Field.
The win by the Yellow Jackets secured the team's first home win in exactly two years (Oct. 25, 2023 vs. Mount St. Joseph) plus the first home win under head coach Htut Zar. Seniors Quinn Holtzapple, Jacob Saxby and Blaine Worden all started for DC and were honored before the game.
The match was very competitive while Defiance got to enjoy the role of the offensive aggressor for most of the match. After outshooting Rochester Christian 8-4 in the first half, DC kept applying the pressure and throughout the second with 10 more shots after the break.
Inside 10 minutes to go, Defiance had a prime opportunity by Diego Suarez that sailed just wide right. However, Suarez set up the game-winner with 4 minutes left when he sent in a pass in front of the net that Olivier punched through for the game's only goal.
The 18 shots by the Purple and Gold were the most in a conference game this season and the team's second shutout win of the season. Goalkeeper Jacob Goldsberry earned his third win in the net with the win and knocked down all four shots on goal taken by RCU.
Closing the year at 3-14-1 and 2-9 in the WHAC, the Yellow Jackets improved from a winless debut season in the NAIA and carry the momentum of a victory into the offseason.
