Men’s Track and Field Places Third at Yellow Jacket Open
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s track and field team garnered 102 points in a third-place showing at the Yellow Jacket Open on Friday. Austin Trivett and Justin Perkins each posted conference-leading marks in DC’s last home meet of the season.

Trivett saved his best pole vaulting performance for his last home meet, as the senior cleared a personal-best 15-03.00 to claim the top spot in the conference standings. He added a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, and jumped 6-00.75 in the high jump to claim fourth place at the meet and second in the HCAC this season.
Defiance dominated the 1,500-meter run with three of the top-four times at the meet. Hayden Krick led the way, finishing second with a time of 4:13.67, while teammates Joe Davis and Aaron Fraley finished third and fourth respectively. Krick, Davis and Fraley now rank third, sixth and eighth in the HCAC standings.
Justin Perkins posted the only sub-ten minute time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a conference-leading time of 9:42.66. The junior runner is looking to secure the fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in the HCAC for a third-consecutive season.
Josh Beaverson once again led DC's throwers, finishing seventh in the discus with a toss of 119-10, and posting a personal-record mark of 150-01 in the hammer throw to place fourth at the meet and third in the conference standings.
DC's relay teams were exceptional. The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Brian Downs, Ryan Perry, Aaron Demecs and Dan Hardin-Wallace, finished in 43.67 to claim a top-ten spot in school history and move into second in the HCAC standings. The 4x400-meter relay team capped the meet for Defiance with the sixth-fastest time in school history, crossing the line in 3:28.02 for a second-place finish at the meet and a second-place spot on the HCAC's performances list.
The track and field team will return to action next Saturday, April 9, at the Adrian All-American Invite. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
