Postema Places First in Weight Throw and Shot at All-Ohio
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Four Defiance College school records fell to the men’s track and field team at the All-Ohio Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 9. The squad pulled off three first-place finishes, recorded two top-20 National Collegiate Athletic Association performances and one meet record.

Senior field athlete Tom Postema couldn't have had much better of an afternoon at the championships. The native of Defiance, Ohio came in first place when he hurled a school record shot put toss of 16.99 meters and came up a mere four centimeters short of the meet record. He now stands fifth in all of National Collegiate Athletic Association Div. III. However, the senior was not done. Postema then recorded a distance of 19.60 meters in the weight throw that was the longest throw in the championships history.
Sophomore Troy Parrett also continued his strong sophomore campaign on Saturday. The mid-distance runner logged a new Yellow Jacket record with a 1:55.40 in the 800-meter run. The Cedarville, Ohio, native currently ranks first in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and 13th in all of NCAA Div. III. Junior Madison Murphy placed fifth in the same event with a time of 1:57.93 that was third best in school history and a personal record.
For the distance runners, junior Joe Davis finished second at the championships with a new school record 8:48.42 in the 3,000-meter run. The Ontario High product took off over two and a half seconds off the previous record he set on January 26 at the DC Invitational. He now ranks number one in the conference in the event.
DC's track and field squad will return to action next Saturday, February 16 when it hosts the HCAC Indoor Championships. The championships will begin at 1:00 p.m.
