Defiance Hosts Indoor Invitational
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted their first indoor track meet of the season at the George M. Smart Center with the Defiance Invitational. The Yellow Jacket men finished fifth overall with 31 points.
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted their first indoor track meet of the season at the George M. Smart Center with the Defiance Invitational. The Yellow Jacket men finished fifth overall with 31 points.
Junior Andy Foore (Swanton) ran in the 200-meter dash for DC, placing ninth overall. He crossed the finish line in 24.87 seconds.
In the men's one-mile run, freshman Daren Gies (Plymouth) finished 12th overall with a time of 5:24.02.
Junior Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) competed in the 5000-meter run and came in third overall with a time of 17:01.01. Fellow junior Zach Roush (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) also competed in the same event and turned in a time of 18:24.72 to place sixth.
Sophomore Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) competed in the 60-meter hurdles posting a time of 9.39 seconds which was good enough for sixth overall. He also competed in the high jump event, finishing in fourth place with a mark of 6' 0.75".
The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished in sixth place overall with a time of 3:52.32. Runners on the relay included senior Courtney Lyn-Kew (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach), junior John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Area), junior Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry), and Schwarzbek.
Defiance had three men qualify for the finals in the shot put event. Freshman Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) finished in third place, throwing 43' 7.00". Freshman James Baranoski, Jr. (Bloomingdale, Mich./Bloomingdale) finished in eighth place with a distance of 41' 10.00" and junior Josh Ream (Van Wert/Crestview) finished ninth with a toss of 41' 00.50".
In the weight throw. Defiance had two finish in the top-10 with Petro recording the "high mark" for the team with a seventh-place finish and a distance of 46' 01.50". Kasper also finished in the top-10 with a 10th-place effort of 42' 05.25.
The men will be idle until Saturday, Feb. 6 when the Jackets travel to Ada, Ohio to compete in the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University.
