Men Compete Well In Indoor Season Opener

The 60-meter event included one top-20 finish in freshman Devin Logan (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) who placed 19th overall running a time of 7.45 seconds.
In the 400-meter race, the Jackets had one person finish in the top-20 in sophomore Dalton Bradford (Continental) who ran a time of 1:03.80 and finished in a tie for 18th. Senior Courtney Lyn'Kew (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) posted the top overall time for DC in the 600-meter run crossing the finish line in a time of 1:31.78 and finished seventh.
Other top-20 times in the running events included a 12th-place finish by junior Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry) in the mile run completing the event in a time of 4:54.27.
In relay competition, Defiance finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with the team running a combined time of 3:50.54. The Jackets also finished third in the 4000-meter distance medley relay with a mark of 11:45.66.
For the field events, the Jackets performed well overall. Freshman Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz.) recorded the top individual effort with a third-place showing in the shot put with a toss of 13.77 meters (45' 2.25"). Sophomore Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) recorded a top-five finish in the high jump with a heighth of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75") and placed fourth overall.
In the weight throw, the duo of sophomore Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) and junior Zachary Kasper (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) finished back-to-back with an eighth and ninth-place finishes with marks of 12.92 meters (42' 4.75") and 12.72 meters (41' 8.75") respectively. In addition, Junior Joseph Carpenter (Rootstown/St. Thomas Aquinas) placed in the top-20 in the same event with a distance of 12.07 meters (39' 7.25") which was good enough for 17th overall.
The Definace men will next compete in the Northwest Ohio Invitational hosted by the University of Findlay on Friday, Jan. 15. The start time for the meet is still TBA.
