Wilson, Brown sport podium finishes at WHAC Outdoor Championship
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Defiance College men's and women's track teams completed the regular season at the WHAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Indiana Tech on Thursday and Friday. The host Warriors captured the team championships in both the men's and women's competitions while the Yellow Jackets posted a 7th-place finish in the men's side compared to 9th in the women's standings.
Defiance captured three podium finishes in the men's competition, building on the team's success during the indoor season to give DC its first outdoor podiums at the conference meet since joining the WHAC. Xavier Wilson was the runner-up in both the 100 and 200 meters. He bolted to a 10.49-second 100-meter dash for the second-fastest time in program history while posting a 21.59 in the 200. Wilson was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished fourth. Jesse Brown captured a 3rd-place finish in the men's high jump with a height of 1.93 meters on his first attempt but fell short of matching the winning height of 1.98 meters.
Numerous athletes set personal bests in the competition, including all four runners in the men's 100 meters. Alongside Wilson, Marcus Snell, Amir Spikener and Ian Westmeyer all posted personal bests in the 100-meter dash before Spikener and Westmeyer also PRd in the 200 meters on Saturday. Miles Inman also ran his best 400-meter hurdle race of the year and Esau Pressley had his best high jump. For the women's team, Nerisa Mukwe also set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles.
The WHAC also announced its postseason awards at the event as Xavier Wilson was honored as Men's Newcomer of the Year. On the Champions of Character Teams, Chloe DeBoer was the women's representative, and Jesse Brown was named to the WHAC's men's Champions of Character Team.
