DC swept by 8th-ranked Bethel on Friday
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Facing the No. 8 team in the NAIA Top 25, the Defiance Yellow Jackets were downed in straight sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-14) by the Bethel Pilots at Goodman Gymnasium.
Defiance finished the game hitting underwater with 14 kills to 16 attack errors, which was part of 34 total errors in the match. Bethel had 7 attack errors in the first set but settled in for just 7 total in the last two sets, ending the contest with a .316 attack percentage. Bethel jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first set, taking nearly 2-for-1 the entire set. Defiance started the second set with a brief lead and trailed 12-10 until the Pilots posted 4 straight to open a 6-point advantage. In the third, 5 of DC's first 6 points were on Bethel errors and trailed 8-7 before the Pilots rattled off 7 of the next 8 points with 2 kills and 3 aces. After DC got next 3 points back to pull within 3 points, Bethel limited Defiance to just a pair of points the rest of the night and scored 6 of the last 9 points of the evening on kills.
