Hopper named WHAC Pitcher of the Week
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College freshman Madelyn Hopper (Montpelier, Ohio/Montpelier) was named WHAC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Hopper helped the Yellow Jackets to an undefeated week as the team improved to a 5-1 start in conference action and are now 10-12 overall. The Montpelier grad's weekly stat line included a pair of complete games, a 2-0 record, 1.08 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 13 innings of work. Hopper took the ball in Game 1 of both doubleheaders last week, starting with an 8-inning showing against Lourdes with one unearned run allowed before DC walked off the Gray Wolves for the team's first extra-inning win of the season. On Sunday, Hopper fanned a season-high 7 hitters in a 5-inning victory in which she did not yield a base hit outside a pair of RBI knocks in the third. In addition to her pitching efforts, Hopper also went 7-for-10 at the plate with 6 runs scored, 1 double, and 2 RBIs.
This week's honor is the first Player of the Week Award for DC Softball this season and the program's second since joining the WHAC in 2024-25.
The Yellow Jackets are currently in second place in the WHAC Softball standings and are back on the field on Wednesday at Michigan-Dearborn.
