Lady Jackets Pack Holiday Season with Community Service

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's basketball team continued its strong tradition of community service by participating in the Backpack Buddy Program on Thursday, Dec. 16, in conjunction with the United Church of Christ.

The team spent the morning at the local church, filling backpacks with nutritious snacks and juices to be distributed to designated students at the Defiance Elementary School for consumption over the weekend.

"It is an opportunity for students who are on free or reduced lunch to take home supplemental snacks over the weekend," said the Lady Jackets on their latest blog entry. "It is really something that the kids now look forward to on Fridays at school."

The student-athletes at Defiance College have earned a reputation for their consistent contributions to community improvement over the years. During the 2009-10 academic school year alone, the DC athletics program has contributed over 2,400 hours towards community service.
