The award recognizes student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom as well as on the court. In order to be eligible for this award, the athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status or higher academically, participate in over half of the team's games and played a key role in those games.
Comden is in the midst of her best season as a member of the Purple and Gold. The Ayersville High standout leads the team in scoring and rebounding this season with averages of 14.7 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per contest. The senior has also excelled on the defensive end of the floor, as Comden leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in blocks with 2.2 per outing. This most recent honor enhances Comden's already successful career as a Yellow Jacket. The senior received All-HCAC accolades as a junior and is a two-time recipient of Academic All-HCAC honors. The center was also named HCAC Player of the Week this season for her outstanding play during the week of November 26 through December 2.
Comden has maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.85 during her time at Defiance as a wellness and corporate fitness major.
The senior and the DC women's basketball program are currently in fourth place in the HCAC with a record of 8-5 in conference action and are 11-9 on the season.
