HCAC Names Tietje and Schomaeker Players of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Kelsey Tietje and Travis Schomaeker have been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their performances against Manchester and Mount St. Joseph's this past week. [HCAC Release]

Tietje (Deshler, Ohio/Patrick Henry) helped Defiance College to a 2-0 start to kick off HCAC regular season play.  She finished both the Manchester game and the MSJ game with a double-double.  The sophomore scored 19 points and grabbed 12 boards in a 68-61 overtime win over Manchester.  She went on to put up 18 points with 11 rebounds in the victory over MSJ.  She also added seven blocks for the week.

Schomaeker (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) also helped the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 HCAC start on the men's side.  He secured his first ever double-double on Wednesday against Manchester.  He scored 22 points while also dishing out 10 assists.  He followed that game with 18 points in a win over MSJ.  Schomaeker shot a blistering 66.7% from downtown in the two games combined.

Tietje, Schomaeker, and the rest of the Yellow Jackets will travel to Transylvania for a HCAC matchup on Saturday.  The Women's game is set for a 1 pm start with the men's game to follow.
