FINDLAY, Ohio – The Defiance College women's basketball team took a break from regular season play as they headed to the University of Findlay for exhibition action with the Oilers on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the NCAA Division II foe 87-40.
A strong performance from the Defiance bench started early as Josi Wolf (LaRue/Elgin Local) scored the Yellow Jackets' first points of the contest. The freshman rounded out the first quarter performance with six of her eight points in the opening period of action.
With an early deficit, DC began the second quarter with a quick defensive rebound from Danielle Carruthers (New London/New London), which transitioned to a Taylor Day (West Mansfield/North Union) layup. The Oilers offense proved strong as they rounded out the first half with a 46-19 advantage.
The third quarter saw Defiance's points come exclusively from Head Coach Allan King's Bench. Kalyn Pickens (Fort Wayne, Ind./R. Nelson Snider) led the Purple and Gold in the third period of action as she shot perfect from the floor and the charity stripe.
DC pushed out the team's highest quarterly offensive output in the final period of action. Taylor Steinbrunner (Beavercreek/Bevercreek) knocked down a pair of field goals before rounding out her five points with a three-pointer. Lexi Sparks (Trenton/Kings) and Emily Blanton (Plymouth/Plymouth) both added to the fourth quarter scoring with one three-pointer a piece.
On the day, Sparks led the Purple and Gold in scoring with 11 points. Briawna Francis (Indianapolis, Ind./Avon) tallied six rebounds to lead the way on the boards.
