Women's Basketball announced 2024-25 schedule

DEFIANCE, Ohio - Women's basketball is gearing up to compete in the NAIA and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with the release of its 2024-25 schedule, the Defiance College Athletic Department announced on Thursday.

Head coach Courtney Peay, who is in her second season leading the Yellow Jackets, has brought on first-time DC assistant coaches Marco Price and William Romes to help rebuild the program following an 0-25 finish last season. The Yellow Jackets open the campaign with a five-game stretch on the road, including visiting WHAC members Siena Heights and UNOH, and Division I opponent Purdue Fort Wayne for an exhibition contest. 

DC hosts its first official home game is Nov. 23 against conference peer Lourdes and will continue WHAC play Dec. 4 at the Karl H. Weaner Center versus Madonna. Other home contests against conference competitors include Aquinas, Michigan Dearborn, Lawrence Tech, Indiana Tech, UNOH, Siena Heights, Cornerstone and Rochester. In late December, the Yellow Jackets will face a demanding stretch beginning with a second exhibition at Division I foe Toledo followed by rival Bluffton.

Defiance will take on nine opponents for an inaugural time, four of which are members of the WHAC — Cleary, Concordia, Cornerstone and Madonna. In conference, the Yellow Jackets have the most history with Siena Heights, as DC leads the all-time series 17-3. The teams most previously competed against each other in the 2018-19 season resulting in a 56-48 Yellow Jacket win. Additionally, despite switching conferences ahead of the season, Defiance will uphold its long-standing rivalry against Bluffton. Across the 104 total meetings between the two, DC dominates the win column 74-30, however, has fallen in the past two matchups. 

Standard start times for conference matchups are 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 1 p.m. on weekends, which the men's contest will follow.
