Defiance falls in exhibition game at Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets traveled northeast to take on the Toledo Rockets in an exhibition match at Savage Arena on Saturday afternoon, falling 114-30.
In the first minute of play, the Rockets (7-2, 0-0 MAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets (2-10, 1-6 WHAC), but Chandler Duncan responded with a 3-pointer to keep it close. For the next four minutes, Toledo went to work on a 10-point run. The Rockets became relentless in the paint, which lasted most of the game, leading 36-10 at the end of the first quarter; Jourdyn Wynn led Defiance with four points.
Katlin Barrett put in her first bucket of the game within 29 seconds of the second period. Barrett's two was followed by four-combined missed shots between both teams. The Rockets' hot-scoring day continued as they led by as many as 42 with 45 seconds remaining in the half. Quick back-to-back layups from Duncan ended the half with Toledo ahead 57-19; Duncan led the Yellow Jackets with 10.
The first five minutes of the third quarter, Defiance was outscored 18-3, which became a trend. The Yellow Jackets persisted through the final period, but ultimately dropped their exhibition match in the Glass City.
THE TURNING POINT
After Toledo's first quarter, 10-0 run, the Rockets began to run away with the game. Defiance turned over the ball 28 times, which contributed to 43 Toledo points throughout the contest.
