Defiance lands two on WHAC Academic All-Conference Team
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced the 2024-25 women's basketball season awards on Thursday and included a pair of Defiance Yellow Jackets on the conference's All-Academic Team.
The announcement included the WHAC's All-Conference Teams, Players and Coach of the Year, Champions of Character Team, and All-Academic Awards. The WHAC's All-Academic Team awards student-athletes who have been at their institution for one full year and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and above. The Champions of Character Team incudes one member from each school who exemplifies the five core values of the NAIA character initiative (integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership).
Junior Ali Mowen (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) and Mone'a McElroy (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) were tabbed Academic All-Conference for their classroom performance through the fall semester. This is McElroy's first Academic All-Conference award in her first year eligible for recognition. Mowen adds her second honor for women's basketball and her fourth overall including academic awards from past softball seasons. Mowen was also represented the Yellow Jackets on the WHAC's Champions of Character Team.
Among the WHAC's All-Conference Awards, Indiana Tech picked up Player of the Year (Taylor Covington), Defensive Player of the Year (Genevieve Decker) and Coach of the Year (Jessica Biggs). The WHAC Tournament continues on Friday night with the semifinal games taking place between Indiana Tech and Cornerstone along with Lourdes versus UNOH. The conference championship game is scheduled for March 3.
