DC drops competitive home opener to Rochester Christian
DEFIANCE, Ohio – In its first home game of the 2025-26 season, the Defiance Yellow Jackets lost a tough conference battle, 68-58, to the Rochester Christian Warriors at the Karl H. Weaner Center on Tuesday night.
The Warriors (2-3, 2-0 WHAC) used a decisive 9-0 first-quarter run to take control and never surrendered the lead in a steady win over the Yellow Jackets (1-4, 0-2 WHAC). Defiance opened strong with leads of 8–3 and 12–8 before losing grip of the lead, and then closed the first quarter with an 8-2 burst sparked by two quick baskets from Taylor Haynes to stay within reach.
The Yellow Jackets kept the deficit to single digits through three quarters despite offensive struggles in the middle frames, where they were outscored 27–20. Both teams heated up in the fourth, each shooting better than 50 percent, but foul trouble hindered Defiance in the second half, eventually seeing Haynes and Jourdyn Wynn both fouled out in the final period. Rochester Christian pushed its advantage to 12 in the final minute before the final basket by Lorena Caparros trimmed the final margin.
