Jackets sunk by Wolverines to start second half
DEARBORN, Mich. – In the team's first game of the new year, the Defiance Yellow Jackets were handed an 84-47 defeat to the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse on Saturday.
In a collision of extended losing skids entering the game, the Wolverines (4-10, 2-6 WHAC) snapped a five-game losing streak while the Yellow Jackets (3-11, 0-8 WHAC) skid extended to seven games in its first contest since Dec. 20.
The Wolverines held DC to 14 or fewer points in all four quarters and forced the Jackets into 24 turnovers. UM-Dearborn had a superb day from the field, shooting 48 percent compared to 23 percent by Defiance.
The lead traded hands early in the contest with the Jackets holding a 9-8 lead after a Morgan Crowe 3-pointer. However, the Wolverines embarked on a 10-0 run to claim the upper hand. Closing the first quarter with a 19-11 lead, UM-Dearborn outpaced the Jackets with over 20 points in each of the next three quarters.
Shaunie Little was DC's lone player to score double figures, aided by three free throws. Jourdyn Wynn posted 9 points and 5 rebounds off the bench as San'Taizia Thomas, Taylor Haynes and Crowe all scored 7 points each. The Yellow Jackets had a strong game at the free throw line at 16-for-21 to help buoy the afternoon's offensive hardships.
