Gray nears two school records, three golfers post PRs at Heidelberg Fall Invite
TIFFIN, Ohio - Defiance College freshman golfer Madison Gray flirted with the school's 18 and 36-hole records over the weekend while the Yellow Jackets posted their best team performance of the young season.
Gray opened the tournament with a stellar round of 75 on Friday, coming one shot shy of the program record of 74. Her opening round featured three birdies and an even-par front-9. She finished with an 82 on Saturday to compile a combined 157, which was three strokes off from the program record of 154. Gray's performance earned a top-10 finish (9th) and was just seven strokes off the lead.
Magen Hines cleared personal bests for an individual round and two-round tournament during her third career event with twin rounds of 85 for a 170. She did so with one birdie in each round and finished 38th overall.
Paige Yazzie and Olivia Splete finished the tournament with 200 and 201 strokes, respectively. Yazzie shot 96 on Friday followed by 104 on Saturday, while Splete carded rounds of 101 and 100.
Braylin Shaner was the third DC golfer to post career numbers during the tournament. After a 106 on Friday, Shaner took a 103 into the clubhouse on Saturday for a new personal-low round while her 209 for the tournament was also a career-best for the sophomore.
DC women's golf returns to the links on Friday for a one-day event at Cleary.
