Gray wins WHAC Golfer of the Week for runner-up finish
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College sophomore Madison Gray (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) was named Women's Golfer of the Week by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference to secure the last weekly award of the fall golf season on Monday.
Gray and the Yellow Jackets finished the fall season last Monday with about 30 holes of golf after Sunday's play was suspended. Gray ended the first day with the lead in the tournament by shooting a 77, which was her second-lowest round of her first season of college golf. She followed up with an 84 in Monday's second round and closed the tournament with a 161, one stroke behind the tournament medalist. Gray's 161 for the tournament tied for the third-lowest 36-hole total in program history and her 77 was tied for third lowest. Gray closed the fall portion of the schedule with a program-best 84.8 18-hole average. Her second-place finish at Moose Landing was her second top-10 of the year.
This is the first conference player of the week award for Gray and the second for the DC women's golf program since joining the WHAC.
